It is easy to attract and please the senses in an outdoor atmosphere that produces a natural tranquility and a sense of stillness; while at the same time enveloped in an engaging and energizing experience. Homeowners are realizing the benefits of outdoor living spaces that grow from a simple outdoor patio or deck to full-fledged living rooms, outdoor kitchens, and even outdoor bedrooms. It is a wonderful way, when people are feeling overworked to bring a calming peace to a hectic day.
Architecture is a reflection of a cultural and social identity that live in the landscape, designed within the space for the way it will be used. The primary use of solid timber structures, such as pergolas, gazebos, pavilions, arbors, and trellises, is to provide not just protection from intermit weather but a place for family and friends to comfortably gather.
Our gazebos and pergolas have been a essential for many weddings, wedding receptions and family gatherings. A solid timber frame shade structure installed for a wedding or wedding reception is more than a wedding centerpiece or backdrop, it is an enduring keepsake for continued gatherings and family get-togethers for a lifetime of cherished happy memories.

Songs of Beautiful Color

Consider Color. Subconsciously, and in many cultures, wedding colors are extremely important, often viewed as an expression of their fidelity and commitment. Preferences of colors are also unique to each person, based upon their personal experiences and impacted by their culture. In a sense, color can seem to "match" personalities.
Beyond personal preference, around the world, colors can hold a whole spectrum of meanings and symbolism. For example, in Thai traditions with color according to the days of the week. If your birthday fell on Sunday you would decorate with red. Dark blue would be considered an unlucky Sunday color. The Russian color красный (red) means beautiful and is often worn for wedding ceremonies. In China, red is associated with prosperity, vitality, happiness and a long life.
The feelings and interpretations a person invokes towards color is very much perceived through cultural filters, associations and their unique belief systems. A color that feels calming to one person in one geographical region can solicit a different feeling to someone from a different locality.
There are many things that come into play when choosing colors for special occasions, such as the common theorem: Pleasing color schemes are more successful when chosen from opposite sides of the color wheel. In an outdoor wedding setting, any color will go well with warm timber wood, blue skies and green gardens, however when it comes to designing for an outdoor living environment color values and color hues can play a large part into the feeling of your outdoor space.
Color is light and light is in a sense life. Colors bring life to a room and a system of rules or principles that are practiced in the interior of a home also apply to an outside room. Color can connect you from one place to another.
Cooler colors hues such as blues, greens or violets recede back from the eye giving space more light creating the illusion of a spacious and larger area. To some, these colors tend to create a calm atmosphere. Warmer colors give the impression of moving towards the eyes, making a room feel small and cozy.
The value of a color is interpreted by the measure of light and dark while the saturation of a color is measured by the intensity of the its hue. Brighter colors are more often seen as energetic colors while softer colors seem to be quieter.
You can also toss around the idea of looking beyond color as the accents to the timber frame structure itself. Western Timber Frame™ offers some a variety of exciting stain colors selections. Custom stains are still an option as well.
The pergola pictured left is a custom stain that was matched to the trim of the house. This is a 26' x 16' timber frame DIY pergola kit featuring two arched knee braces with decorative keystones. The 10' x 14' timber frame pool side pergola is custom stained with multiple colors.
